Courses are 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This equates to 26, 45-minute lessons per week, scheduled as shown in the table below.
Along with 20 hours of weekly lessons it is highly recommended to study on your own as well. This helps consolidate and reinforce what you’ve learned in the classroom. Your courses will keep you busy, but you’ll find the schedule still allows plenty of free time to relax and discover the region.
If you want to increase your formal hours of study at CLE you can try our combined courses, which offer 3 additional hours of private tutoring each week. You’ll be enrolled in two, extra, 1.5-hour one-on-one classes (or three 1-hour classes) taking place after normally scheduled classes during the week.
CLE’s doors are open from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. If you feel like studying your day’s lessons in the library, computer lab or comfortable lobby, you’re free and encouraged to use any of our DVDs, books or computers for your benefit.

On the day of your arrival, you’ll receive a “welcome package” containing information about your studies at CLE. After a short introduction to the school, you’ll visit our grounds and discover the multiple offerings available through the school for enriching your French studies or enjoying your stay in Tours.
After the tour of CLE’s campus, there will be a 90-minute written and oral test, allowing us to professionally evaluate your knowledge of the French language. During the oral portion of the exam, we take time to discuss your interests, expectations, and motivations for learning French. The results of the exam will help us determine which group and level corresponds best to your needs. If you’re inexperienced or just beginning your journey with the French language, the exam time is adjusted, and we begin the first lesson quickly after.
The morning ends with a visit of the neighborhood where we offer advice for your daily life and stay in Tours.
You are welcomed in a small group of maximum 7 students. You are given a book which serves as a basic structure for the lessons. Your teacher enriches this base with personal documents, fun activities, to vary the exercises, to deepen certain points and to sustain your interest, there is no question of you getting bored! Our goal is to help you progress in French while enjoying yourself in a stimulating and relaxed atmosphere.
On Monday and Thursday afternoons, you have a workshop, called « en action » with a different teacher. The purpose of these weekly workshops is to strengthen your oral production and comprehension, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.
On Tuesday afternoons you choose one, longer, multileveled workshop called “découverte.” You’ll have options to discover the city by tramway, the street art of Tours, or cheeses of France. For these workshops, a small fee may be required for purchase of a tramway ticket, wines, cheeses, etc…
