Discover the French way of life
The ideal way to discover France and its people is to live with a local family and to share their way of life. Chatting at the family dinner table remains one of the best ways of improving your comprehension and vocabulary. You’ll discover true French culture and of course, the delicious world-famous French cuisine.
We know that a host family plays a very important role in making your stay a success. Consequently, we very carefully select families to ensure that you have a warm welcome and comfortable stay. Our host families’ caring nature helps contribute to the good reputation of CLE.
It could be a couple with teenaged children, a couple without children living in the home, or even a retiree in her late fifties or sixties living on her own. If you choose to stay with a host family, we do everything possible to find a family that matches your desired requirements so that your stay will be comfortable and effective.
Most families live in the center of Tours or a short distance away (15 to 20-minute walk) from CLE. Others live further away (15-minute bus ride) in larger homes in residential areas. Families can and will accept one or two students at a time but always with different mother tongues for the benefit of both students.
Staying with a family starts the Sunday before your course begins and ends the Saturday after your course has finished. Before your arrival you’ll be sent the e-mail address, telephone number and address of the family you are staying. They will meet you for your arrival at the Tours railway station, or at Tours airport, depending on your method of transportation.
“What I appreciate most is the wonderful host that I stayed with for these 4 weeks. Madam Marie-France Michelesi was a fine retired lady who welcomed me like a family member. We have many interests in common, which allowed us to share a lot during our stay together. CLÉ has certainly taken my criteria seriously and found me an excellent match.
I feel that I have improved my French in a natural environment and I will recommend CLÉ to anyone who is keen to learn or polish his French. ”

Before choosing this type of accommodation please note: it can be very tiring, trying to speak French all day at school, and sometimes continuing late into the night. Along with adapting to another’s way of life while living in their home, this type accommodation can be difficult (yet rewarding). If your level of French is very limited, it is very important to keep in mind that you will spend more time listening than speaking.
